Well for personal reasons this brought me a lot of joy. I worked with you both in my 20s, having no idea wtf I was doing or where I was going or why, but being down to just flow. Even though Hollywood ultimately wasn’t for me, you both — and the overall vibe of your sweet little division — gave some models of how else producing art could look… artist-forward, ethical, and relational. I love seeing you two giggle together all these years later and articulate what I was just kind of vaguely perceiving; it brings back warm memories for sure.
Anna! Hi hi hi hell yes! Oh man, whenever I think about what a funny little outfit of cool artists and weirdos our division got to be at its best, you are absolutely a core member of that roster. Huge congrats on everything you've been up to and def keep me posted when you are next doing things in LA!
An editor/producer/director for 20 years in a non-industry town (Memphis TN), I’ve learned to really enjoy the process of filmmaking rather than thinking of where it will go or how many awards it will win. Not that the things I work on aren’t good, I guess it’s more about being present with the art.
My favorite part of being an editor is getting all the footage for the first time (whether doc or narrative) and the discovery process of watching the clips for the first time. Like opening up little mystery boxes.
Thank you for this! Looking forward to future episodes!
Thank you! And yes, it’s such a great process if you can detach it from all of the stress and externalities. (And a lot of great art gets made in Memphis!). Thanks so much for taking the time to watch.
Listening to this was a trip in the way way back machine and reminded me how fortunate I was to work with you both. You two were the reason our little team had the guts and inspiration to break ground in a media world that was just being invented—there literally was no roadmap. You were discovering, championing and supporting the most interesting new artists and projects while often writing, directing and producing too. I’m very happy to see you thrive and do what you love.
DG! I am so touched by this! And right back at you, thank you so much for giving us our first shots and letting us take so many swings and wear so many hats. I legit could not do the job I do now without our time fighting the good fight back then, and that's so real. Learning how to produce and collaborate and have high level creative conversations with creators/talent and logging so many flight hours on sets and in edits. I genuinely get to walk on sets now and not be terrified, which is wild, because most everything else in life still terrifies me. :)

❤️❤️❤️ This makes me so happy and I've been so happy to see all the cool stuff you've been up to since then. Thank you!
